Registered Nurse – Postpartum / Mother-Baby (RN Postpartum)

Shift Matrix: Night Shift | 19:00 – 07:30 (3x12-Hour Shifts)
- Schedule Quality: 36 hours per week. Every-other-weekend and holiday rotation per unit operational needs.
On-Call Requirement: No call.
Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week
🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:
- Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered Kansas State RN License or active eNLC Compact RN License held in hand at submission.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated Postpartum, Mother-Baby, or Combined Antepartum/Postpartum RN experience in an acute care setting.
- Mandatory Certifications:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Clinical Competency: Proven experience managing both post-delivery mother-infant dyads and high-risk antepartum admissions.
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A hospital in Wichita, KS is seeking an experienced Postpartum / Mother-Baby Registered Nurse (RN Postpartum) for a 13-week night assignment in Mother Baby Unit 001 (Department 21230). Operating within a dedicated regional maternal-child facility, the RN will deliver couplet care to post-delivery mothers and well-child/level-I newborns, as well as specialized nursing care for antepartum patients.
- Couplet Care & Postpartum Assessment: Conduct comprehensive maternal postpartum assessments (fundal height/firmness, lochia, perineum/surgical site monitoring, pain management) and routine newborn assessments (vital signs, hypoglycemia screening, jaundice monitoring).
- Antepartum Nursing Management: Monitor high-risk antepartum patients admitted for complications such as preeclampsia, premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), gestational diabetes, and preterm labor.
- Lactation & Newborn Education: Provide hands-on breastfeeding assistance, formula feeding guidance, infant safety education, newborn metabolic screening, and discharge preparation for new parents.
- Emergent Intervention & Resuscitation: Recognize and respond rapidly to postpartum hemorrhage, maternal hypertensive crises, and acute neonatal distress in collaboration with OB/GYN and pediatric teams.
