MRI Technologist | Radiology

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to join the Radiology/MRI department of a Level I Trauma facility. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced Siemens MRI equipment in a high-volume environment performing a broad range of diagnostic imaging studies.

The ideal candidate should be ARRT-certified, experienced with MRI procedures, comfortable starting IVs, and able to work independently in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Position Details

• Department: Radiology – MRI
• Trauma Level: Level I
• Required Certification: BLS
• Professional Certification: ARRT
• MRI Experience: Required
• Average Volume: Approximately 35–40 scans/studies per day
• Coverage: MRI only; no routine floating to other imaging areas
• Orientation: 1 week of department-specific training

MRI Equipment

The department operates three Siemens MRI scanners:

• Siemens Aera – 1.5T
• Siemens Trio – 3T
• Siemens Espree – 1.5T

Imaging & Procedures

The department performs a wide variety of MRI studies, including:

• General MRI
• Cardiac MRI
• Breast MRI
• Angiographic studies
• Other advanced MRI examinations

Technologists should be comfortable handling a diverse imaging workload and adapting to different study requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform MRI examinations according to established protocols.
• Prepare and position patients safely for imaging.
• Operate Siemens MRI equipment.
• Ensure appropriate patient screening and MRI safety procedures.
• Start IVs when required for contrast-enhanced examinations.
• Monitor patients throughout procedures and respond appropriately to clinical needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation and imaging records.
• Collaborate with radiologists, residents, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain a high standard of patient care and imaging quality.

Technology & Systems

• MRI Equipment: Siemens
• EMR: EPIC
• PACS: McKesson, transitioning to Merge
• Radiologist Coverage: Radiologist in-house during the day; resident coverage at night
• Registered Radiology Assistants (RRA): Not utilized

Scheduling

• Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts
• Shift: Approximately 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Days vary based on department scheduling.
• Weekend Requirement: Yes
• Holiday Requirement: Yes
• Call Requirement: Yes

The department maintains 24/7 MRI coverage. Call responsibilities primarily provide backup coverage for overnight staffing needs, including situations where an overnight technologist is on PTO or calls out sick.

• Scrub Color: Gray
• Scrubs are not provided by the department.

Orientation

• Approximately 1 week of department-specific training
• Orientation scheduling is flexible based on the department's 24/7 coverage needs.

Compliance Requirements

50-Mile Radius Rule

• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
• A driver's license is required at submission and will be used to verify the candidate's distance from the facility.
• Candidates may not currently be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity.

Fingernail Policy

• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient-care departments.
• Refusal to comply with the facility's nail policy may result in termination of the contract.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced MRI Technologist with ARRT certification and strong hospital-based MRI experience. The candidate should be comfortable working with Siemens equipment, performing a high volume of studies, starting IVs, and providing safe, efficient patient care in a Level I Trauma environment.
