Job Title: Laboratory Director (Direct Hire / Permanent)
Location: Wheeling, WV
Employment Type: Direct Hire / Permanent (Full-Time, 40 hrs/week)
Salary Range: $104,582.40 – $156,852.80 / year (Commensurate with experience)
Bonus Package: Sign-On Bonus & Relocation Assistance Available (Amounts TBD)
Shift: Day Shift (40 Hours Guaranteed; start/end times vary based on operational needs)
Position Overview
A premier academic-affiliated health system in Wheeling, West Virginia is seeking an experienced, strategic Laboratory Director for a permanent direct-hire leadership opportunity. In this executive clinical role, you will oversee full laboratory operational strategy, budget management, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and technical performance across diagnostic pathology services while leading a dedicated team of laboratory professionals.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct laboratory administrative, technical, and operational functions to maintain regulatory accreditation (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission).
- Oversee departmental fiscal budgeting, capital equipment acquisitions, and staffing productivity.
- Maintain clinical quality results, instrument certification, troubleshooting protocols, and proficiency testing surveys in consultation with Pathologists.
- Lead and mentor laboratory personnel, including recruitment, performance evaluations, competencies, and continuing education.
- Manage Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) optimization, test menu additions, and new analytical platform implementations.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), or a related biological science required (Master’s in Clinical Lab Management or Healthcare Administration preferred).
- Certifications: Active MLS/MT certification through ASCP or AMT required.
- Licensure: Active West Virginia High Complexity Testing Personnel (HCTP) license (or eligible to obtain prior to start).
- Experience: Minimum five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience with at least three (3) years in laboratory supervision or management.
