Respiratory Therapist – Nights
Region: Critical Illness & Rehab
Engagement Type: Contract
Openings: 2
Assignment Duration: Up to 13 weeks
Schedule: 12-hour Night Shifts | 3 shifts/week | 36 hours/week
Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality respiratory care to patients in a critical illness and rehabilitation setting. The RT evaluates patients, develops treatment recommendations, administers respiratory therapies, manages ventilatory equipment, assists with respiratory procedures, and provides patient education while working within the scope of professional licensure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
- Provide intensive respiratory care with minimal supervision.
- Provide medically prescribed patient transport into and out of the facility.
- Administer prescribed respiratory treatments using:
- Invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment
- Oxygen delivery devices
- Aerosol and nebulizer devices
- Administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygen therapy.
- Perform chest physiotherapy and secretion-clearance treatments.
- Perform patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
- Perform pulse oximetry and capnography monitoring.
- Review chest X-rays and identify the need for further respiratory evaluation.
- Perform 12-lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition.
- Perform pulmonary function studies, including NIF and VC.
- Assist with respiratory procedures such as:
- Bronchoscopy
- Percutaneous tracheostomy
- Chest tube placement
- Perform drainage of chest via PleurX catheter or similar devices when applicable.
- Provide tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
- Perform arterial puncture and evaluate ventilation efficiency.
- Perform laboratory testing according to facility policy where applicable, including specimen handling, equipment operation, documentation, quality control, and maintenance.
- Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscopy.
- Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilators.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Document respiratory treatments, patient responses, and pre/post assessments accurately.
- Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding treatment effectiveness.
- Provide appropriate shift-to-shift handoff communication.
- Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging, data entry, verification, and correction of errors.
- Educate patients regarding respiratory treatments, equipment, and discharge/home-care needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of bedside clinical experience
- Current state Respiratory Therapy license
- Active CRT or RRT credential from NBRC or state equivalent
- BLS certification required before first shift
- ACLS certification required before first shift
- Strong experience with respiratory assessment, treatment, mechanical ventilation, and critical-care respiratory procedures.

Submission Requirements:
- Current state RT license
- Active NBRC CRT/RRT credential
- BLS
- ACLS
- Resume demonstrating 2+ years of bedside clinical experience
