Unit Information: Surgical PCU

Location: Main Methodist

Floor: 5th floor

Building: North Tower

· Number of Beds - 32

· Type of staff:

o Day Shift – 1 charge nurse, 2-3 PCTs, 7-8 RNs on the floor

o Night Shift - 1 charge nurse, 2-3 PCTs, 7 RNs on the floor

· Patient Ratios – 1:4, sometimes 1:5

· Type of equipment - Walkers, kangaroo pumps, PCAs, chest tubes, ostomies, peg tubes, NG tubes, foley

· EMR - Meditech

Must have: candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.

· Time management

· Critical thinking

Preferred or nice to have: candidates with these skills will be considered first.

· PCU experience

· Trach experience

List typical procedures performed on unit(s):

· Airways- Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy

· Bowel- Small bowel resection, lower anterior resection, ileostomy or colostomy placement and reversal, fistula repairs, hernia repairs, Nissen fundoplications, etc.

· Pulmonary- bronchoscopy, lobectomies, thorascopies, wedge resections, chest tube placement

· Mastectomies, Modified radical neck dissections, thyroidectomy

· Routine care for JP drains, biliary drains, abdominal or chest tube drains, TPN, tube feeds

· Telemetry
