Simplified Cardiac PCU RN Travel Job

Position: RN – Cardiac PCU
Shift: Day, 3×12 hours — 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
Schedule: 3 shifts/week
Contract: Travel
Unit: 2A Cardiac Medical Progressive Care
Beds: 30 private beds
Patient Population: Adults

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years RN experience
• Cardiac PCU experience required
• Must be comfortable with 1:5 patient ratios
• First-time travelers accepted
• Previous Charge RN experience preferred
• BLS and ACLS required
• NIHSS preferred/required for compliance
• EPIC experience required
• Must have active RN license in hand at submission
• Must pass an EKG exam — up to 2 attempts
• Current driver's license required for address verification
• No open cases on background check

Patient Ratio

• Typically 1:5
• 1:4 when caring for patients with drips/BiPAP
• Nurse assistants available 24/7
• Unit secretary available 7 AM–11 PM

Main Patient Population

• Congestive heart failure
• Acute coronary syndrome
• Arrhythmias
• Pre/post cardiac catheterization
• Rule-out MI
• Syncope
• Pacemaker placement
• COPD
• Pneumonia
• BiPAP patients

Required Clinical Skills

• Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Pre/post cardiac cath care
• PICC and peripheral line management
• Chest tubes — Emerson/Pleur-Evac
• CPAP/BiPAP
• Tracheostomy care
• Procedural sedation
• Rapid Response/Code Team experience
• EKG interpretation

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling through Optilink
• Scheduling is arranged in 6-week periods
• Weekend rotation required
• Holidays as needed
• Travelers may float to any Cone Health campus as needed
