Position Overview

The RN will work as part of the ICU Float Pool, floating between two campuses and five ICU specialties at Yale New Haven Hospital and the Saint Raphael campus. The campuses are approximately two blocks apart, share a parking lot, and a shuttle is available if needed.

The RN must be comfortable floating across ICU specialties and Step-Down units, including a pulmonary Step-Down unit with an approximate 1:3 patient ratio.

Clinical Skills

• IV therapy
• Arterial line management
• Central line care and management
• Care of ventilated patients
• Continuous IV sedation
• Neurological patient care
• External ventricular drain (EVD) management – preferred
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Pulmonary artery line/Swan-Ganz monitoring

Required Certifications

• ACLS – Required
• BLS – Required
• NIHSS – Required
• TNCC – Preferred

Requirements & Additional Details

• 2+ years of ICU RN experience required
• Travel experience not required
• Every-other-weekend coverage required
• No call
• Must float within scope to 5 ICU specialties and Step-Down units
• Must float between two campuses
• Must be willing to float to Step-Down, including pulmonary Step-Down
• Pending license accepted, but must be active before start date
• RTO exceeding 7 days requires approval
• Guaranteed hours
• Block scheduling not available
