Travel Pathologists’ Assistant
 

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Assignment Length: 12 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Flexible day, mid, or evening shift options
Start Dates: Early to mid-December and early January
 

We are seeking experienced Pathologists’ Assistants for two 12-week travel assignments supporting a busy downtown surgical pathology gross room. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a high-volume pathology team handling a diverse mix of adult surgical pathology cases, including a significant oncology caseload.

The department operates Monday through Friday from approximately 5:00 AM–1:30 AM and can offer schedule flexibility based on department needs and candidate preferences. Day shift is preferred, with an ideal schedule around 8:00 AM–4:00 PM; mid and evening coverage may also be available.


Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens ranging from simple to complex cases
  • Handle moderate and complex specimens, including cancer resections
  • Support frozen-section workflow as needed
  • Work closely with pathologists, pathology residents, grossing technicians, and laboratory staff
  • Document and manage cases accurately within Cerner CoPath
  • Maintain quality, turnaround-time, and safety standards in a high-volume gross room

Qualifications

  • Active PA(ASCP) certification required
  • Graduate of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Pathologists’ Assistant studies
  • At least one year of recent practicing Pathologists’ Assistant experience required
  • Strong surgical pathology grossing background required
  • Experience with complex grossing and oncology/cancer resections strongly preferred
  • Cerner CoPath experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work independently within a collaborative pathology team

Assignment Details

  • Two immediate travel openings supporting planned leave coverage
  • 13-week assignments
  • Potential additional openings in 2027, with possible opportunity to extend or convert based on business need
  • Candidates should be comfortable with a high-volume pathology setting; roughly 35% of the caseload involves cancer resections
