ER/ED RN – Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in a 24-bed Emergency Department, including 2 critical-care rooms and 4 behavioral-health rooms.
• Manage approximately 70–80 patients per day in a fast-paced ED.
• Assess, triage, stabilize, and continuously monitor patients across all age groups.
• Participate in triage; travelers are expected to perform triage when assigned.
• Care for patients with chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, uncontrolled diabetes, and other emergency conditions.
• Manage high-acuity patients requiring medications such as Levophed, epinephrine, fentanyl, and propofol.
• Monitor cardiac patients and independently interpret telemetry/EKG strips.
• Provide respiratory support and troubleshoot equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen in collaboration with RT.
• Perform RN blood draws/phlebotomy as required.
• Care for behavioral-health patients in designated safe rooms.
• Respond to STEMI and stroke alerts and provide stabilization prior to transfer for definitive intervention.
• Assist with occasional emergency/precipitous deliveries, as the facility does not provide OB services.
• Collaborate with ED physicians, mid-level providers, RT, radiology, PCTs, security, and other interdisciplinary staff.
• Work with 1 PCT per shift, with support for patient transportation and phlebotomy.
• Use EPIC for clinical documentation and patient records.
• Recognize patient deterioration and initiate appropriate emergency interventions.
• Work independently and efficiently with fewer resources than a large teaching or trauma facility.
• Float between the three Memorial campuses as needed to maintain contracted hours; floating is expected to be infrequent.
• Participate in weekend and holiday coverage according to the contract.
• Follow all emergency, infection-control, medication-safety, and patient-care protocols.
