Description
Setting: Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) / post-acute rehab - not a traditional outpatient clinic
Patient population: Primarily geriatric patients, including short-term rehab patients recovering from hospitalization, surgery, illness or injury, plus longer-term SNF residents
Main focus: Helping patients regain mobility, strength, balance and independence, with many working toward safely returning home
Typical PT work: Evaluations, treatment plans, gait/mobility training, transfers, strengthening, fall prevention, functional improvement and discharge planning
Team environment: Works closely with PTAs, OT, SLP, nursing and the rest of the interdisciplinary care team
Best background: SNF, post-acute rehab, geriatrics or similar experience would be especially valuable
Licensure: Traveler would need the appropriate Virginia PT license
Important for a traveler: Be comfortable independently managing a SNF caseload, documentation and productivity expectations
