Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Paterson, NJ
Unit: Emergency Department
Start Date: 10/19/2026
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Weekend: Every other weekend

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency nursing care to adult and pediatric patients in a high-volume academic ED.
• Care for patients with medical, surgical, trauma, cardiac, neurological, and other emergency conditions.
• Perform triage and prioritize patient care based on acuity.
• Manage STEMI and stroke patients according to established protocols.
• Provide care for Level I/II trauma patients.
• Care for observation and admitted boarding patients remaining in the ED.
• Monitor patients, administer medications, initiate IV therapy, and respond to changes in condition.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced emergency setting.
• Provide pediatric emergency care and work with the dedicated pediatric emergency team.
• Float within the ED, including observation and boarding areas, based on operational needs.
• May float between the Paterson and Wayne campuses as required.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ED experience in a large academic Designated Level I or Level II Trauma Center.
• Active NJ or Compact RN license at submission.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC required.
• If TNCC is not currently held, proof of a scheduled course before start is required.
• Experience with adult and pediatric emergency care, triage, STEMI, and stroke required.
• Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted.
• Must be comfortable with high-volume ED assignments and boarding/observation patients.
• Must work every other weekend.
• Hunter Green scrubs required.
• Flu vaccination required; approved medical/religious exemptions accepted.
