Position Overview

Indiana University Health West Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to support its medical-surgical units. This advanced practice nursing position is responsible for improving clinical outcomes, strengthening nursing practice, and leading evidence-based initiatives across the hospital.

The CNS will serve as an expert clinician, educator, leader, researcher, and consultant, partnering with nursing staff, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve the quality, safety, and consistency of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the clinical expert for medical-surgical nursing practice.
• Provide advanced consultation and clinical guidance to nursing staff and leadership.
• Develop and deliver educational programs that improve staff competency and patient care.
• Promote evidence-based nursing practices throughout the medical-surgical units.
• Lead quality improvement projects focused on clinical outcomes, patient safety, and operational performance.
• Participate in nursing research and support the implementation of research findings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical systems, policies, and workflows.
• Mentor nurses and support staff development, professional growth, and clinical excellence.
• Evaluate clinical practices and identify opportunities for system-level improvement.
• Support the development and implementation of standards, protocols, and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
• Master’s degree in Nursing with specialization as a Clinical Nurse Specialist required.
• Active Indiana RN license or active Nurse Licensure Compact RN license.
• Must meet the requirements to practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Indiana.
• Three to five years of advanced clinical experience in a medical-surgical or perioperative setting.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
• ACLS or additional advanced life support certifications may be required based on departmental needs.
• Strong background in clinical education, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and staff development preferred.
• Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
