Description

RN – PCU | Roles & Responsibilities

Department: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Shift: 19:00–07:30 (7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
Job Type: Long-Term Assignment
Experience Required: 2 years

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients requiring progressive/step-down level monitoring and treatment.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, and other clinical parameters.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly notify the provider and appropriate clinical team.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately according to orders and facility protocols.
  • Monitor patients with complex medical conditions and respond appropriately to changes in status.
  • Manage and monitor IV lines, central lines, drains, and other patient-care equipment as applicable.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, nursing assistants, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding medications, treatments, disease management, and discharge instructions.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.

Preferred/Required Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience, preferably in PCU, step-down, telemetry, ICU, or acute-care settings.
  • Strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to care for multiple medically complex patients in a fast-paced environment.
