Description

Role: Surgical Technologist – General Team

Contract: 13 weeks

Start date: November 30, 2026

Guaranteed hours: 40 hours/week

Contract weeks listed: 13

Shift: Variable day shifts on the General Team

Radius rule: Must live more than 50 miles from Wausau; 

 

Required Experience

  • 4+ years surgical technologist experience — required
  • Prior travel experience — required
  • Level II trauma experience — required
  • Strong surgical scrubbing experience
  • Da Vinci robotics experience — required
  • Experience in a high-volume hospital strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable with:
    • General Surgery
    • GYN
    • Urology
    • Plastics
    • ENT
    • GI
    • Other specialties as needed

OR Environment

  • 21 operating rooms
  • Approximately 40–60 cases/day
  • Responsible for:
    • Setting up operative rooms
    • Checking case carts and supplies
    • Scrubbing a variety of surgical cases
    • Room turnover between procedures
    • Helping with downtime tasks
    • Potentially training new hires

Call Requirements

This is an important part of the assignment:

  • 6–8 weeknight call shifts during the 13-week contract
  • 1–2 weekend call shifts
  • 30-minute response time
  • Traveler must be able to be in the OR within 30 minutes
  • Own vehicle required — cannot depend on Uber/Lyft because of call
  • Weekend work is for call only
  • Holiday rotation required

Certifications / Education

  • BLS- AHA or ARC certification
  • Certification through NBSTSA or NCCT accepted
  • Associate degree or surgical technology certificate
  • Surgical technology program training plus relevant OR experience

Other Important Conditions

  • Up to 36 hours of low-census unbillable time during the contract
  • Travelers may be placed on call during low-census hours; if called back, call-back pay applies
  • Guaranteed hours generally apply except during:
    • Orientation week
    • Holidays when the unit is closed
    • Low-census provisions noted above
  • May float to Aspirus Merrill, Antigo, Medford, or Stanley
  • Scrubs: Any color
  • During flu season, travelers declining flu/COVID vaccination must wear a mask at all times under the stated Aspirus policy.
