Description
We are seeking an experienced Postpartum Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional maternal and newborn care in a Family-Centered Postpartum environment at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center.
The ideal candidate will have strong postpartum/newborn clinical skills and experience caring for mothers and newborns throughout the postpartum period. This assignment is well suited for an RN comfortable with couplet care, newborn assessments, maternal education, high-risk medications, IV therapy, fetal monitoring, and newborn monitoring.

- Shift Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekly Gross: $3,007.20
- Charting: Epic
- Postpartum Unit: Approximately 18 beds
- Typical Staffing: Approximately 1:3 couplet care, with potential flex to 1:4 based on facility needs
- Potential opportunity for L&D transition/newborn care responsibilities
- Potential extension after the initial 13-week contract
Unit & Patient Care
This assignment is within a Family-Centered Postpartum Unit caring for mothers and newborns following delivery.
Typical clinical responsibilities may include:
- Maternal and newborn assessments
- Couplets / mother-baby care
- Maternal-newborn education
- Breastfeeding and newborn-care support
- Newborn monitoring including pulse oximetry and cardiac monitoring
- Newborn medication administration and IV therapy
- Heel sticks and newborn venipuncture
- Bili-blanket / phototherapy management
- Radiant warmer care
- Maternal high-risk medication administration
- Magnesium, Oxytocin and Insulin administration
- IV insertion and laboratory draws
- Urine point-of-care testing
- Capillary blood glucose testing
- I-STAT knowledge
- Adult cardiac monitoring
- Post-operative bladder training
- GYN teaching and post-operative care
L&D / Transition RN Skills
Postpartum / Family-Centered Care nurses may be required to support Labor & Delivery transition care based on facility needs.
Candidates should be comfortable with:
- Newborn care immediately following delivery
- APGAR assessment
- Newborn suctioning
- Transitional newborn care
- Maternal-newborn assessment
Orientation may be provided for applicable transition-RN responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of recent full-time equivalent RN experience within the last 3 years
- Recent Postpartum / Mother-Baby experience strongly preferred
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Active California RN license required
- BLS required
- Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program / newborn resuscitation experience required
- Demonstrated electronic fetal monitoring skills
- Demonstrated IV skills and ability to perform laboratory draws
- Experience with high-risk medications including Magnesium, Oxytocin and Insulin
- Experience with maternal and newborn monitoring
- Strong maternal-newborn education and patient-care skills
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN or related bachelor's degree
- 3+ years Labor & Delivery experience
- 3+ years Postpartum experience
- 1+ year Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Previous experience in a high-volume maternal-newborn environment

The facility provides comprehensive maternity services, including Labor & Delivery, Family-Centered Postpartum care, NICU services, maternal-fetal/perinatal services, 24-hour OB/GYN coverage, certified nurse midwives, lactation support and private family birthing/postpartum rooms.
The medical center is also designated as a Birthing-Friendly hospital and a California Children's Services (CCS) Approved Hospital.
