π₯ 36-HOUR NIGHT-SHIFT PROGRESSIVE CARE (PCU) FLOAT POOL RN CONTRACT β NORTHERN VIRGINIA (DC METRO)
An immediate travel contract opening is available for an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) in Alexandria, Virginia (Northern Virginia / Washington D.C. metro area). Operating as a vital member of the inpatient acute care and telemetry float team, this position features a stable 3x12 overnight schedule (19:00 PM β 07:00 AM / 7:00 PM β 7:00 AM, 36 hours guaranteed weekly). NO ON-CALL REQUIRED! OVERTIME OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE! This role floats across progressive care, observation, medical, surgical, and overflow units to support dynamic hospital census needs. - Hourly W2 Rate: $20.00/hr (36 regular hours)
- Overtime Rate: $30.00/hr
π SHIFT & POSITION DETAILS
- Schedule: Night shifts, 3x12-Hours (19:00 PM β 07:00 AM / 7:00 PM β 7:00 AM; clock-in by 18:53, clock-out by 07:23). Shifts scheduled by administration based on hospital-wide clinical needs.
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 regular hours guaranteed weekly (additional overtime shifts available).
- On-Call Requirements: NO ON-CALL REQUIRED!
- Weekend & Holiday Coverage: Minimum 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block; holiday rotation includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday.
- Unit Acuity & Ratios:
- PCU, Observation (15 beds), and Overflow (11 beds): 1:4 ratio.
- Medical (36 beds) and Surgical (42 beds): 1:5 ratio (rarely stretches to 1:6).
- Rare ICU/ER holds: Lower-acuity holds/boarders typically staffed at 1:4 (up to 1:5 max).
- Staffing Support: Nurse Aides / Patient Care Techs assigned at 1:8 to 1:11 depending on the unit; dedicated unit secretaries on select floors.
- Floating Flexibility: Floats across all PCU, Telemetry, Medical, Surgical, Observation, and Overflow units (may work a different unit each shift, always within or below clinical scope).
- Clinical Scope & Diagnoses: Stroke rule-outs, acute chest pain, dysrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical recovery, altered mental status, acute kidney injury (AKI), acute decompensated heart failure (CHF), GI hemorrhage, sepsis protocols, and acute respiratory failure.
- Medications, Telemetry & RT Devices:
- Active titration and management of critical infusions: Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin.
- Off-site remote telemetry monitoring; RNs are required to independently interpret strips, identify acute rhythm changes, perform 12-lead EKGs, and promptly notify attending physicians.
- Familiarity with CPAP, BiPAP, and High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) oxygen delivery.
- EMR System, Orientation & Uniform: Epic; 3 full orientation shifts across 3 different units plus general hospital orientation; Scrub color is Solid Navy Blue.
π¨ REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUBMISSION
- Experience: Minimum 1β2 years of dedicated acute care PCU, Stepdown, or Inpatient Telemetry clinical experience. Prior travel nurse experience is required.
- Licensure: Active Virginia RN License or Compact/NLC Multistate License strictly in hand at submittal.
- Certifications Required (Documents in hand):
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) β must be AHA, no exceptions.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) β must be AHA, no exceptions.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification.
- Clinical & Technical Proficiencies:
- Verified experience titrating Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin infusions.
- Documented prior proficiency with Epic EMR.
- Must be able to independently read/interpret cardiac strips and pass an EKG dysrhythmia examination.
