Shift Matrix: Night Shift | 19:00 – 07:30 (3x12-Hour Shifts)
- Work Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week (3x12-Hour Night Shifts).
- On-Call Requirement: No call required.
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week
🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:
- Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New York State RN License held in hand at submission.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of recent, dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) RN experience in an acute care setting.
- Mandatory Certifications:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active AHA ACLS
- High-Acuity Competency Mandate: Direct experience managing invasive mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring (arterial lines, CVP), vasoactive drip titration, and critical care drug infusions.
- Backfill Requirement: Immediate start assignment backfilling a traveler whose contract ended early; candidate must be fully orientation-ready with minimal acclimation time needed.
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A Medical Center in Elmira, NY is seeking an experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN ICU) for a 13-week night contract in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU - Department 6410). Operating within the health system's primary acute care hospital, the ICU RN will manage comprehensive, high-acuity critical care nursing interventions for critically ill adult medical, surgical, cardiac, and trauma patients.
- High-Acuity Patient Assessment & Monitoring: Conduct continuous neurological, cardiovascular, and respiratory clinical evaluations; manage invasive hemodynamic lines (A-lines, CVP) and monitor cardiac rhythm telemetry in real time.
- Continuous Drip Titration & Pharmacotherapy: Administer and titrate high-risk critical care intravenous vasoactive continuous infusions (inotropes, pressors, sedatives, paralytics) according to strict facility protocols.
- Mechanical Ventilation & Airway Support: Manage invasive mechanical ventilation settings, assist with bedside endotracheal intubations, track arterial blood gases (ABGs), and execute lung-protective ventilation strategies.
- Interdisciplinary Critical Care Response: Lead bedside resuscitation efforts during Code Blue calls and rapid physiological deterioration; collaborate with intensivists, pulmonologists, and respiratory care teams to adjust critical care plans.
