PCU / Stepdown RN – Travel Contract
Facility: Baptist Health Montgomery
Location: Montgomery, Alabama
Specialty: PCU / Mixed Acuity
Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Schedule: 3×12s | 36/48 hours per week
First-Time Travelers: Yes, with 2 years of ICU experience
Interview: SimpliFi interview + manager second interview

- 18-bed mixed-acuity PCU
- Unit: 4 South
Position Overview
The PCU is a mixed-acuity unit caring for intermediate-care patients as well as non-ventilated ICU-level patients. The RN will provide care to complex neurological, post-procedural, cardiac, respiratory, and medical patients.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience
- 2 years of ICU experience required for first-time travelers
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- NIHSS required
- Strong PCU/Stepdown or ICU experience
- Experience caring for high-acuity, non-ventilated patients
Patient Population
Common diagnoses and patient types include:
- Neurological and post-procedural patients
- Post-TNK patients
- Neuro IR procedures, including embolizations and angiography
- Hemorrhages and aneurysms
- Burr holes
- VP shunt placements
- Post-craniotomy/craniectomy
- Lumbar drains
- Spinal cord injuries
- EVDs
- Continuous EEG
- Neuro/spine surgery
- Respiratory failure
- CHF
- Hypotension
- Sepsis
- Altered mental status
- DKA
- Electrolyte abnormalities
Required Skills
- Manage patients on BiPAP/CPAP
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- CVP monitoring
- Hemodynamic line monitoring
- Management of post-surgical drains
- Trach care
- Chest tube management
- Titration of multiple vasoactive and cardiac medications, including:
- Cardizem
- Dobutamine
- Dopamine
- Esmolol
- Insulin
- Cardene
- Nitro
- Levophed
- Epinephrine

- RN ratio: approximately 1:3, based on acuity
