Location: IHS Hospital in Taos, NM 87571
Contract Length: 1 year (option to extend)

Compensation:
- Hourly Rate: $65
- Travel weekly stipends (If applicable): $1,406
- Total Weekly Pay: $4,006
- Please keep in mind that payroll is processed on a biweekly basis.
Job Description:
The Contractor shall provide Pharmacist services for the Taos-Picuris Service Unit Health Center in Taos, New Mexico. This position is located within the Pharmacy Department and supports an ambulatory healthcare setting that provides a full range of outpatient medical, dental, and community health services.
The Pharmacist will be responsible for providing direct outpatient pharmacy services and ensuring safe, accurate, and effective medication therapy for patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day outpatient pharmacy services, including reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, calculating dosages, preparing medications, and accurately counting or measuring medications for dispensing.
- Prepare and dispense prescription medications in accordance with applicable clinical standards, policies, and regulations.
- Review prescriptions for appropriate dosage, therapeutic compatibility, potential drug interactions, contraindications, and other safety concerns.
- Contact prescribing providers regarding questionable dosages, therapeutic incompatibilities, or other medication-related concerns prior to dispensing.
- Review patient medication profiles to assess the safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness of drug therapy.
- Evaluate patient adherence and response to prescribed medications, including monitoring relevant signs and symptoms.
- Counsel patients regarding medication therapy, including proper administration, dosage instructions, precautions, potential side effects, contraindications, and appropriate medication storage.
- Ensure all prescription labels contain accurate directions for use and appropriate precautionary information.
- Maintain adequate medication inventory and support proper inventory control procedures.
- Maintain required legal and regulatory records for controlled substances and other prescription medications.
- Ensure pharmacy documentation and practices comply with applicable Federal laws and requirements established by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), The Joint Commission, Medicare, Medicaid, and Indian Health Service (IHS).
- Coordinate pharmacy services and activities with other departments and healthcare professionals within the health center.
- Assist with emergency situations when required.
- Comply with all applicable bylaws, policies, rules, procedures, and regulations of the Taos-Picuris Service Unit.
Work Setting
This position supports an ambulatory/outpatient healthcare environment serving patients through the Taos-Picuris Service Unit Health Center in Taos, NM.
Overtime
Overtime worked in excess of 40 hours per week will be compensated at 1.5 times the applicable hourly rate.
