Registered Nurse – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RN NICU)

Shift Matrix: Day Shift | 07:00 – 19:30 (3x12-Hour Shifts)

  • Work Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week.
  • On-Call Requirement: On-call coverage required per departmental rotation.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

  • Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New Hampshire State RN License or Compact RN License held in hand at submission.
  • Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of recent, dedicated Inpatient Level II/III NICU RN experience in an acute care setting.
  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • Active AHA BLS
    • Active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • EHR Proficiency: Mandatory Epic EMR experience.
  • Flexibility & Cross-Coverage Expectations:
    • Must be open to floating to Pediatrics to care for hyperbilirubinemia readmissions, Failure to Thrive cases, etc. (dependent on candidate's competence/comfort).
    • Rare possibility of house-wide floating strictly for 1:1 patient coverage.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope

A Hospital in Dover, NH is seeking an experienced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN NICU) for a 13-week day contract in the combined Women & Children's Unit / Level II NICU (WD3122 / SO00006976). Operating within a Level II NICU caring for infants born at 32+ weeks gestation, the RN will deliver high-acuity neonatal nursing care under a Family Integrated Nursing Care (FINC) model.

  • High-Acuity Neonatal Care: Direct care for neonates requiring non-invasive respiratory support (CPAP, HFNC), short-term mechanical ventilation, peripheral IV access, central lines, and nasogastric tube (NGT) feedings (typical assignment ratios 3–4:1 based on acuity).
  • Family Integrated Nursing Care (FINC): Execute FINC care models across 4 specialized rooms where mothers and NICU neonates are cared for together, supporting maternal-infant bonding and couplet care.
  • Multidisciplinary NICU Collaboration: Partner closely with 24/7 Neonatology coverage (NNPs, PAs, Neonatologists), pharmacy, nutrition, lactation, OT, SLP, and social work using Epic EMR, Plum IV pumps, and Fisher & Paykel equipment.
  • Pediatric Unit Cross-Coverage Support: Provide clinical support to the adjacent 4-bed pediatric unit for low-acuity pediatric cases when unit census and staffing dictate.

  • Department Setting: Women & Children's Unit / Level II NICU (Department WD3122 / SO00006976) — 6 NICU rooms (census up to 10), 2 acute stabilization beds, 16 LDRP, and 4 Pediatric beds.
