Contract Dates: November 2, 2026 – February 6, 2027
Position: Certified Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
Assignment: Urgent Backfill
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- No Overtime (schedule may be subject to change based on unit needs)
- Call: 6 days per month
- Weekend Call: 1 weekend per month
- All RTO must be provided at the time of submission
Position Overview:
Cherokee Nation W. W. Hastings Hospital is seeking an experienced and certified Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) for an urgent backfill assignment. The SPT will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
The department supports:
- 4 inpatient Operating Rooms
- 5 outpatient Operating Rooms
- 2 outpatient Endoscopy rooms
The ideal candidate must be experienced with general instrumentation, laparoscopic instruments, flexible endoscopes, sterilization processes, and facility-specific equipment.
Required Certifications:
- CBSPD or CRCST/HSPA certification – Required
- Certification must have been active for a minimum of 1 year
- AHA BLS – Required
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver clean, sterile instruments and equipment for surgeries, medical examinations, carts, and clinical procedures.
- Collect, sort, manually clean, and decontaminate used medical equipment, supplies, and surgical instruments.
- Perform manual, mechanical, and high-level disinfection (HLD) processes.
- Prepare, assemble, package, wrap, and organize surgical instruments into appropriate trays.
- Inspect instruments and supplies to ensure proper cleanliness, functionality, and readiness for use.
- Lay out surgical gloves, gowns, instruments, and other required supplies before procedures.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment according to facility protocols.
- Perform steam and low-temperature sterilization.
- Identify and report sterilization equipment issues and coordinate replacement or repair as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, processed items, and supplies.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and monitor expiration dates.
- Reorder medical and surgical supplies as needed.
- Properly handle and dispose of medical waste according to safety and infection-control standards.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and sterile processing procedures.
Required Technical Experience:
Decontamination
- Manual decontamination
- Mechanical decontamination
- High-Level Disinfection (HLD)
- Experience operating facility-specific decontamination equipment
Assembly
- Competent in the care and handling of medical devices, surgical instruments, and equipment
- General surgical instrumentation
- Laparoscopic instruments
- Flexible endoscopes
Sterilization
- Steam sterilization
- Low-temperature sterilization
- Experience with facility-specific sterilization equipment
Additional Required Experience
- Dental tray assembly
- Pediatric-related sterile processing experience
- Experience supporting inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures
Equipment
Experience with equipment and instrumentation such as:
- Arthrex
- Steris
- Olympus
- Other facility-specific sterile processing equipment
Department Environment
