- Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing
Description
Required clinical experience
- RN experience in L&D/LDRP/OB with the ability to care for obstetric and postpartum patients.
- Previous travel experience is required.
- Must be able to read and interpret fetal heart-rate strips.
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring is required.
- Strong critical-thinking skills.
- Must be comfortable with:
- Pitocin
- Magnesium
- Insulin drips
- High-risk OB monitoring
- Couplets/postpartum care
- Obstetric/neonatal patients
- Must be able to recognize and respond to changes in maternal/fetal condition.
Required certification/licensure
- Active RN license appropriate for the assignment.
- BLS required.
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required.
- Preferred certifications:
- ACLS
- NRP
- STABLE
Floating requirement — important
This is a float position, so the RN must be willing and competent to float outside LDRP when needed, including:
- Med-Surg
- ER
- Other areas within the nurse's skillset.
The posting specifically states that the traveler may float wherever needed in the hospital.
Schedule
- 12-hour days: approximately 6:45 AM–7:15 PM.
- Days + call.
- Every other weekend according to the unit notes, while the posting summary says every third weekend—this should be clarified with the recruiter.
- Every other holiday.
- Additional call/standby may be required depending on staffing.
- Block scheduling is available, but self-scheduling is not.
- 48 guaranteed hours/week.
Patient-care expectations
- L&D has 7 L&D beds and 8 postpartum beds.
- Approximately 58 births/month.
- Typical ratio is 1:1 for patients on Pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips.
- Approximately 1:3 couplet care for routine postpartum patients.
- Must be able to interpret fetal monitoring independently.
- Must be able to titrate/manage Pitocin, insulin, and magnesium according to policy.
EMR / unit information
- Meditech charting.
- Philips monitoring.
- TraceView/PIP fetal monitoring system.
- Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts.
