Job Description:
 

Position: Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Facility: Ohio State University / Wexner Medical Center
Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour shifts
Hours: 36 hours/week
Shift Time: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Contract: 13 weeks

Experience & License

• Minimum 2 years of experience
• First-time travelers accepted
• Ohio Respiratory License – must be active and in hand at submission
  • Pending license not accepted
• RRT required
• BLS required
• CRT or RRT acceptable according to the skills section, but the job description specifically requests RRT
• High school diploma or official transcripts required during compliance

• PCU
• Emergency Department
• Mechanical ventilation and weaning
• BiPAP / CPAP
• HFNC
• Trach care and management
• Aerosol treatments
• ABG interpretation
• Pulmonary hygiene
• Nitric oxide
• Inhaled Flolan
• Extubation
• Troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
• Airway placement/suctioning
• Various respiratory medications

Patient population: Adults and geriatrics
Facility: Large Academic Medical Center
Common conditions: COPD, asthma, cancer
Preferred ventilator: Hamilton

Floating

• Travelers may be required to float to East Hospital at the facility's discretion.
• Floating between campuses may be required.

Weekend

• Weekends required.
• Specific number of weekend shifts is not provided.

Travel / Submission Requirements

• First-time travelers accepted
• Locals accepted at the same rate
• Only one Ohio State University location can be submitted to
• Former employees are eligible after being away from the facility for 6+ months
• Current Ohio State University employees are not eligible for traveler positions at any OSU hospital location
• 2 professional references required
  • At least 1 must be a manager/director/supervisor or other formal leader
  • Charge RN acceptable as the second reference
  • Coworker references not accepted
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract

Ohio Fingerprinting – Important

This is a strict compliance requirement.

• Candidate must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as the contract is signed
• Compliance deadline is Tuesday prior to start – no exceptions
• Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must drive to an Ohio fingerprinting location
• Candidates far from Ohio will receive a fingerprinting packet by mail
• Delayed/unresponsive credentialing can result in push or cancellation
• Screen candidates for vacation immediately after booking because fingerprinting delays may affect the start date

Vaccination

• COVID vaccine: Not required
• Flu vaccine: Required; medical exemptions only

Must-Haves

2+ years RRT experience + active Ohio RRT license in hand + BLS + adult critical-care experience + willingness to work nights/weekends + ability to float between campuses.

Good news: First-time travelers are accepted, so prior travel experience is not required for this position.
