Description

The PACU Registered Nurse provides safe, individualized nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients throughout the peri-anesthesia period, from admission through discharge. The RN is responsible for monitoring patients recovering from anesthesia, performing thorough nursing assessments, managing airways, administering medications, and identifying and responding to complications or adverse reactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pre- and post-anesthesia nursing care.
  • Assess and continuously monitor patients recovering from anesthesia.
  • Perform airway management and monitor respiratory status.
  • Monitor vital signs, pain, level of consciousness, and overall patient stability.
  • Administer medications safely and understand their doses, indications, interactions, side effects, and potential reactions.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and anesthesia-related complications.
  • Follow established peri-anesthesia nursing standards and protocols.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers, physicians, and the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Educate patients and families regarding recovery and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Active California RN License
  • AHA BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience
  • ICU experience required/preferred, particularly in a high-acuity hospital setting
  • Strong knowledge of airway management and peri-anesthesia nursing

Preferred Experience

  • High-acuity acute-care hospital experience
  • Cath Lab experience
PACU RN needed for a 4×10 day shift with no weekends; requires 2+ years PACU experience, ICU background, CA RN license, BLS/ACLS/PALS, with Cath Lab experience preferred and flexibility to float across CPMC campuses.
