Description

Unit: Newly designated Level I trauma center; approximately 200 patients daily, with heavy trauma and transfer volume

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of critical care experience, with the most recent year in a Level I–II ER
  • Level III ER experience may be considered at hospitals with 500+ beds
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and nationally recognized/JCAHO-accepted Secure or CPI
  • Cerner or Epic preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of ED experience, 2 full years of Cerner/Epic experience, and Level II or higher trauma experience

Patient care

  • Ratios: ER 1:4; Med/Surg holds 1:5; ICU holds 1:3
  • Patients: Multisystem trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI/GU, OB/GYN, pediatric, and psychiatric
  • Skills: Trach/vent care, ICU drips, chest tubes, arterial and central lines, vascular access devices, Foley care, orthopedic devices, BiPAP/high-flow oxygen, and continuous bladder irrigation

Schedule and time off

  • Weekends: Every other weekend, or 4 weekend days per month if on a block schedule
  • Holidays: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • No RTO during blackout dates:
    • Halloween: October 30–November 1
    • Thanksgiving: November 25–29
    • Christmas/New Year’s: December 18–January 1
