Labor & Delivery RN – Travel Contract

Job Title: Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
Shift: 12-Hour Nights
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Start Date: 12/14/2026

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) to provide comprehensive care to laboring, antepartum, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.

The ideal candidate will have strong Labor & Delivery experience and be comfortable managing patients throughout the labor and delivery process, including fetal monitoring, cervical examinations, epidurals, Pitocin administration, amnioinfusions, C-sections, and newborn care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to antepartum, laboring, and postpartum patients.
  • Perform cervical examinations and assess labor progression.
  • Manage spontaneous and induced labor.
  • Administer and monitor Pitocin and IV medications.
  • Manage and monitor epidurals.
  • Perform continuous and intermittent fetal monitoring.
  • Perform amnioinfusions.
  • Circulate C-sections and assist the surgical team as needed.
  • Participate in baby catching/receiving.
  • Perform newborn assessments and APGAR scoring.
  • Provide immediate postpartum care to mothers and newborns.
  • Support breastfeeding and provide patient/family education.
  • Monitor patients for complications and intervene appropriately.
  • Collaborate with physicians, NPs, anesthesiology, and other members of the care team.
  • Provide postpartum care from transition through discharge when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience.
  • Strong recent L&D experience required.
  • Must be comfortable with or have exposure to postpartum (PP) care.
  • Must be competent in:
    • Cervical examinations
    • Antepartum care
    • Labor management
    • Fetal monitoring
    • Epidurals
    • IV therapy
    • Pitocin administration
    • Amnioinfusions
    • C-section circulation
    • Baby catching/receiving
    • APGAR assessment
  • Postpartum experience strongly preferred.
  • Breastfeeding knowledge required.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • NRP
  • Fetal Monitoring certification

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Epic EMR experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous scrub experience is a bonus.
  • Experience caring for high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Strong postpartum experience from transition through discharge.
  • Multilingual skills, particularly Russian or Spanish, are preferred.

Unit Information

  • 20 total beds
    • 12 Labor & Delivery beds
    • 8 Postpartum/Antepartum beds
  • 3 OB/ED rooms
  • 2 Operating Rooms
  • 6-bed Level II NICU
  • Scrub Tech available on site.
  • Scrub-trained RNs may occasionally be utilized for sick-call coverage.
  • NP available on call.
  • No call requirement for the traveler.

Schedule

Shift: 12-hour nights
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Call: None

Scrubs

Teal scrubs are provided.

EMR

Epic – strong experience preferred.

The unit serves a diverse patient population, including a significant Russian- and Spanish-speaking population. Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be confident working independently in a busy Labor & Delivery environment and be prepared to care for both mothers and newborns across the continuum from antepartum through postpartum discharge.
