Description
We are seeking an experienced Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients before and after surgical and procedural interventions. The RN will work across Pre/Post-Op, Phase I PACU, Phase II Recovery, and may care for pediatric patients as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments and review medical history and H&P.
- Prepare patients for surgical and procedural interventions.
- Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access and perform phlebotomy.
- Administer pre-operative medications and provide patient education.
- Monitor patients throughout the post-anesthesia recovery period.
- Perform airway assessments and monitor respiratory status, including end-tidal CO₂.
- Provide cardiac monitoring and recognize/manage dysrhythmias.
- Monitor patients recovering from general anesthesia, MAC, conscious sedation, local anesthesia, nerve blocks, and epidural procedures.
- Provide pain assessment and management and monitor sedation levels using RASS.
- Administer and monitor blood products as required.
- Provide care for central lines, PICCs, and implanted ports.
- Monitor and manage pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Provide post-operative discharge instructions and medication reconciliation.
- Complete follow-up calls and ensure appropriate discharge readiness.
- Follow infection-control, isolation, PPE, and patient-safety standards.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations, including malignant hyperthermia.
- Provide care for patients undergoing a broad range of procedures including general surgery, GI, ENT, orthopedic, gynecologic, ophthalmologic, plastic, podiatric, urologic, vascular, and endocrine procedures.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience.
- First-time travelers are accepted.
- Active or eligible California RN license; pending license may be accepted.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Strong IV therapy and phlebotomy skills.
- Experience with airway assessment and respiratory monitoring.
- Experience with procedural sedation and post-anesthesia recovery.
- Ability to care for both adult and pediatric patients.
- Maximum 7 days of RTO.
Schedule:
- Start date: ASAP.
- Start times vary based on daily assignment.
- Candidates must be flexible with start times.
- PACU nurses are expected to remain until the day's cases/work are completed.
- Outpatient surgery does not have shift relief, so fixed end times cannot be guaranteed.
