Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric CVOR Registered Nurse to join the cardiovascular operating room team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

The ideal candidate will have strong pediatric cardiac surgical experience and be comfortable working in both circulating and scrub roles. This position supports complex congenital and pediatric cardiac procedures, including open-heart surgery, ECMO, heart transplantation, and major congenital repairs.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care to pediatric cardiac surgery patients.
• Serve as a CVOR circulator during complex cardiac procedures.
• Perform scrub duties when qualified and needed.
• Prepare the operating room, equipment, supplies, and surgical instruments.
• Assist surgeons and the multidisciplinary team throughout procedures.
• Maintain strict sterile technique and follow surgical safety protocols.
• Monitor patients throughout the perioperative period.
• Assist with emergency and high-acuity pediatric cardiac procedures.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and other members of the cardiac surgical team.
• Float to areas of similar skill level as needed, including thoracic surgery.

Pediatric CVOR Procedures

Experience with complex congenital and pediatric cardiac procedures is required, including exposure to procedures such as:

• ASD / VSD repairs
• Norwood procedure
• Glenn procedure
• Fontan procedure
• TAPVR repair
• ECMO
• Central shunts
• Arterial switch
• Aortic arch reconstruction
• Valve repair and replacement
• Heart transplantation
• Other congenital open-heart procedures

Required Certifications

• BLS – American Heart Association (AHA)
• PALS – American Heart Association (AHA)
• ACLS – American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Experience

• Pediatric CVOR experience
• Cardiac surgery experience
• Circulating experience
• Scrub experience
• Epic EMR experience
• Experience with complex congenital cardiac surgery
• Experience with ECMO and pediatric heart transplantation

Schedule

Primary Schedule Options:

• Monday–Friday, 4x10-hour shifts, 

Shift Start: 6:00 AM

Call Requirements

Cardiac call is required.

• Approximately 10–12 call shifts per 28-day schedule period
• Includes weekday and weekend call
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Cardiac call only
• Weekend call required

Holiday Requirement

• One major holiday during the assignment.

Floating

Traveler may be required to float to an area of comparable skill level based on facility needs, including thoracic surgery.

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced Pediatric CVOR RN who is confident caring for complex congenital heart surgery patients and can function effectively in both circulating and scrub roles.
