Description
RN – PCU / Resource Team
Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week Schedule: Every other weekend Call: None Scrub Color: Navy Parking: Free
Facility
- 207 licensed beds
- No trauma designation
- Not a teaching hospital
- Chest Pain Center
- Stroke Center
- EMR: Epic
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Philips
Unit
- 10 Med-Surg beds + 10 Progressive Care beds
- Required experience: Minimum 18 months PCU experience
- First-time travelers: Not preferred, but will be considered
- RN ratios:
- Med-Surg: 1:5–6
- PCU: 1:3–4
- CNA ratios vary
- Charge nurse may or may not have patients

- Heart failure
- Chest pain
- Rule-out stroke
- Sepsis
- Renal failure
- Respiratory failure
- DKA
- Interventional patients requiring titratable drips

- PIV insertion
- Chest tube management

- Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drain and Flexi-Seal management
- Foley insertion/management
- PCA pumps
- Medication drips, including:
- Cardiac drips
- Heparin
- Insulin
- Blood products
- IV fluids
Department Support
- CNA
- Receptionist/HUC
- Phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws
- IV/VAT team: 11 AM–7 PM and 11 PM–7 AM
- Resource nurse as staffing allows
- Respiratory therapy 24/7
- Hospitalist 24/7
- Intensivist:
- In-house until 11 PM Monday–Friday
- In-house until 7 PM Saturday/Sunday
- VCC/on-call intensivist coverage afterward
- Telemetry monitoring/tech support: Not specified
Floating
Floating is required. Traveler must be willing to float to facilities/units within scope of practice and regional needs.
Potential Region 1 facilities include:
- Cabarrus
- University City
- Stanly
- Lake Norman
- Central Division:
- CMC Main
- Mercy
- LCH (peds only)
If floated between facilities mid-shift, the traveler remains on the clock and is paid for travel time.
Orientation & Scheduling
- NEO orientation
- 2 days of departmental orientation
- Schedule cycle: approximately every 6 weeks
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend
- No call
- Travelers expected to work 75% of holidays
- RTO: Up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays
- If approved RTO causes the traveler to fall short of contracted hours, additional time may need to be added to the end of the contract
Other Requirement
Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be at least 50 miles outside the home unit/facility.
