Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in an 18-bed Cardiovascular Unit (CVU).
• Care for patients requiring intermediate-level care and downgraded CVICU patients.
• Manage patients with cardiac and vascular conditions, including:
  • CHF
  • A-fib with RVR
  • CVA
  • Cardiac and vascular diagnoses
  • Post-cardiac procedures
  • Thoracic procedures
  • EP procedures
  • Cath lab patients
  • Structural heart patients
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of approximately 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients during the first 24 hours.
• Titrate cardiac and blood-pressure medications, including Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, Cardizem, and other ordered drips.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips; RNs are responsible for their own rhythm interpretation.
• Care for patients requiring BiPAP, CPAP, and oxygen therapy, including troubleshooting respiratory equipment as needed.
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, cardiology, respiratory therapy, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Work with patient care technicians and utilize available support staff.
• Float to units with the same or lower level of acuity when required.
• Participate in unit-specific orientation tailored to experience, typically 1–2 shifts.
• Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC.
• Follow all facility policies, including patient safety, infection prevention, and artificial nail restrictions.
