Travel Sterile Processing Technician (SPD Tech II) – Evenings
Carle Health | Sterile Processing Department
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPD Tech II) to join the surgical services team at Carle Health. This position plays an essential role in ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, inspected, assembled, sterilized, and ready for patient care.
This is a great opportunity for a certified Sterile Processing Technician looking for a consistent weekday evening schedule in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Schedule & Assignment Details
- Shift: Evenings, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5x8-hour shifts
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
- Weekends: No regularly scheduled weekends
- Department: Sterile Processing & Distribution (SPD)
Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, manual and mechanical cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assemble surgical instrument sets accurately according to departmental procedures and manufacturers' instructions for use (IFU).
- Inspect surgical instruments for cleanliness, damage, defects, and proper functionality.
- Utilize electronic testing equipment to evaluate electrosurgical instruments and cables.
- Operate sterilization equipment and verify proper processing parameters.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within the SPD information system.
- Follow AAMI standards, infection prevention protocols, and organizational sterilization guidelines.
- Prepare and distribute surgical supplies and instrument sets for same-day and next-day procedures.
- Restock specialty carts and Omnicell supply systems.
- Respond to urgent and STAT instrumentation requests from the Operating Room and other departments.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure instruments and supplies are available when needed.
Required Qualifications
- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) certification required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of sterile processing, decontamination, surgical instrumentation, instrument assembly, and sterilization procedures.
- Experience with manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable surgical instruments.
- Familiarity with electrosurgical instrumentation and SPD documentation systems.
- Basic computer skills and understanding of medical terminology.
- Ability to work independently, maintain accuracy, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and commitment to infection prevention and patient safety.
