Job Summary

Portneuf Medical Center is seeking a qualified Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) for a 12-week travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have emergency nursing experience, strong critical-thinking skills, and the ability to provide high-quality care to patients with acute illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening conditions.

The facility is a Level II Trauma Center, a comprehensive stroke center, and a STEMI-accredited facility serving southeastern Idaho. The Emergency Department treats patients across a broad range of age groups, from neonates and infants to adults and geriatric patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably in an emergency department.
  • Active RN license valid for practice in Idaho.
  • ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications required and must be in hand at the time of submission.
  • Epic electronic medical record (EMR) experience required.
  • Ability to perform emergency assessments, triage, and critical patient interventions.
  • Willingness to work night shifts and every other weekend.
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted.
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted.

Preferred: Previous charge nurse experience, teaching or community hospital experience, trauma experience, and TNCC certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, triage, and prioritize patients based on the severity of their conditions.
  • Provide emergency nursing care to patients with acute illnesses, injuries, and trauma.
  • Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and neurological status.
  • Recognize and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias and other life-threatening emergencies.
  • Initiate and maintain IV access, administer medications, and manage central lines.
  • Administer blood products and assist with emergency resuscitation.
  • Monitor patients receiving procedural sedation and continuous IV sedation.
  • Manage patients requiring respiratory support, including BiPAP/CPAP and mechanical ventilation.
  • Administer IV vasopressors and provide other critical interventions as ordered.
  • Care for patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, and orthopedic trauma.
  • Follow isolation precautions, infection control standards, and PPE protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, radiology, pharmacy, and other emergency care professionals.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in Epic.

Schedule and Assignment Details

  • Night shift: 6:45 PM–7:15 AM.
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week.
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
  • No travel nursing experience required.
  • No local candidates; a 50-mile radius restriction applies.
  • Orientation: 36 hours, listed as non-billable.
  • One time-off request may be considered, subject to approval.
  • The department has approximately 26 beds, with 27 rooms listed in the job details.
  • Patient population includes neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
