 Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

1. Position Details

• Position: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
• Location: Ohio — exact facility/site not specified
• Shift: Day shift, Monday–Friday
• Schedule: 5 × 8-hour shifts
• Shift Timing: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
• Late Days: Rotating late days to finish the last surgical case.

• Floating: Required to other ambulatory sites as needed.

   

2. Required Experience and Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of CST experience.
• BLS certification required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist certification is listed in the certification requirements, although one section calls it preferred. Confirm whether it is mandatory.
• EPIC experience is required.
• Community hospital experience is preferred.
• Previous travel experience is not required.

3. Surgical Specialties

Preferred experience includes:

• Orthopedics and total joints: Total hip, knee, and shoulder procedures.
• Sports medicine: Arthroscopy.
• Spine surgery
• Hand, foot, and ankle: Carpal tunnel release, bunionectomy, ankle fusion, and fracture reduction.
• Shoulder arthroscopy
• Urology: Cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, TURP, HOLEP, and PCNL.
• ENT: Tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, sinus and ear procedures.
• Vascular: AV fistula repair and vein stripping.
• Endoscopy: EGD, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy.

4. Main Job Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and case carts.
• Assist physicians and the surgical team during procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique and follow infection-control protocols.
• Handle scopes, fiber-optic equipment, drills, and electrosurgical units.
• Process instruments and perform sterilization or high-level disinfection as required.
• Handle and label specimens correctly.
• Follow surgical time-out, universal protocol, and safety procedures.
• Comply with laser, radiation, fire, and sharps safety requirements.

5. Patient Population and Work Setting

• Adolescents and adults.
• Ambulatory operating rooms.
• Endoscopy and outpatient surgical services.
• Total joint procedures involving hips, knees, and shoulders.
• Hand, shoulder, urology, and ENT procedures.

Community hospital experience is preferred, but no specific trauma-level experience is required in the posting.

6. Vaccination Requirements

• COVID-19 vaccine: Not required.
• Flu vaccine: Required; medical exemptions only.

7. Submission and Compliance Requirements

Ohio fingerprinting must be completed urgently after the candidate signs the contract.

• Strict compliance deadline: Tuesday before the start date, with no exceptions.
• Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location promptly.
• Candidates far from Ohio will receive a fingerprinting packet by mail and must complete it as soon as possible.
• Delays due to unresponsive or uncooperative candidates may result in a pushed start date or cancellation.
• Only one location submission is allowed.
• Requested time off (RTO) must be provided at submission and built into the contract.
• Two professional references are required:
  • At least one manager, director, or formal supervisor.
  • A charge RN is acceptable for the second reference.
  • Coworker references are not accepted.
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
• Former employees may be eligible after being away from the facility for at least six months.
• Current employees are ineligible for traveler positions at any Ohio State University hospital location.
