About the Facility

Whiteriver Indian Hospital is a 40-bed, Joint Commission–accredited acute care hospital on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, serving the White Mountain Apache Tribe. It's the largest full-spectrum family medicine hospital in the Indian Health Service. It has a 24/7 Level IV Trauma ED with about 40,000 ER visits a year, an active OB/Labor & Delivery program, ambulatory surgery, and a teaching program that includes lab students. A $680M replacement hospital is now in procurement.

The hospital sits at 5,800 feet in the White Mountains, with four seasons, trout streams, hiking, and Arizona's largest ski resort nearby. Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside, about 25–30 miles north, have full shopping, dining, and lodging. Phoenix is about 2.5 hours away.

  • Perform routine and moderately complex testing in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood bank, according to your documented competency.
  • Run QC and QA procedures, proficiency testing, and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Document results accurately in the LIS and EHR.
  • Follow CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and IHS laboratory policies.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of recent clinical laboratory experience
  • Demonstrated, documented phlebotomy and specimen-collection experience (required for this site)
  • BLS certification (per facility policy)
  • Must pass identity verification, fingerprinting, and a federal background investigation, and complete orientation and competency validation
  • Personal vehicle required. Mountain roads need winter-ready tires.

  • Experience in hospital-based, CAP- or CLIA-accredited laboratories
  • Phlebotomy certification (PBT)

Schedule
