Travel Contract – Medical Technologist (Laboratory)

Position Details

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or a related field.

Certifications

• ASCP certification preferred; candidates must be eligible.
• AMT certification preferred.
• ASCP MT, ASCP-MLT, and ASCP certifications are listed in the job requirements.
• MLT candidates are accepted at a lower bill rate (BR).

Key Requirements

• Strong Blood Bank experience is mandatory.
• Limited Microbiology responsibilities; no culture readout required.
• Epic and Siemens Atellica experience preferred.
• Additional experience preferred in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.
• Relevant laboratory experience should be from the United States, Canada, or an accredited laboratory.

Clinical and Technical Skills

Specimen Processing and Handling

• Specimen accessioning and receipt
• Specimen collection and transport
• Pipetting
• Reporting test results
• Proper specimen labeling

Microbiology

• Aerobic and anaerobic cultures
• Culture plating and plate setup
• Gram staining
• PCR testing for influenza, Group B Streptococcus, MRSA, Staphylococcus aureus, and COVID-19
• Rapid test kits for RSV, strep, H. flu, and C. difficile
• Wet preparations for WBCs, yeast, and Trichomonas

Preferred Microbiology Skills

• Cytospin
• Fungal cultures
• Bacterial identification based on geographical considerations
• Microbiology culture reading
• Aerobic and anaerobic organism identification
• Quick identification tests, including strep serology, indole, coagulase, catalase, and oxidase
• Antimicrobial susceptibility testing

Professional Knowledge and Laboratory Safety

• Hazardous materials and MSDS
• Proper disposal procedures
• Quality assurance and quality control
• Transmission-based precautions

Immunology/Serology

• General rapid test kit procedures and knowledge of quality controls

Work Setting

• Hospital clinical laboratory

Important Notes

• Strong Blood Bank experience is essential.
• Microbiology duties are limited and do not require culture readout.
• Epic and Atellica experience are preferred.
• Rotating weekend coverage is required.
• MLT candidates may be considered at a lower bill rate.

Ideal Candidate: An experienced Medical Technologist with at least 2 years of laboratory experience, strong Blood Bank skills, required travel experience, and the ability to work night shifts and rotating weekends.
