Required Qualifications

• Strong Operating Room nursing experience
• Active nursing license required at submission
• Required Certifications (AHA):
  • BLS

  • PALS
• Scrubbing: Not required for RNs
• First-time travelers may be considered if they have strong experience in a similar OR setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Dependability and attendance history are important; candidates should be prepared to discuss what their last manager would say about their reliability.

  • Tuesday/Thursday: approximately 20–22 cases/day

Common Surgical Cases

• Orthopedics: Total hip, knee and shoulder replacements, sports medicine, arthroscopies, ACL repairs, non-complicated fractures, IM nails and ORIF
• General surgery: Bowel resections, gallbladder surgery, appendectomies, breast biopsies and mastectomies
• Endoscopy: EGDs and other scopes (approximately 40% of cases)
• Ophthalmology: Cataract procedures
• OB/GYN: C-sections and hysterectomies
• Urology: Kidney stone procedures
• Plastics and hand surgery: Breast reductions/implants, lacerations and dog bites
• ENT: Tonsils, sinus procedures and ear tubes periodically

Schedule, Call & Weekend Requirements

• Call: Approximately 3–4 call shifts per month; averages around 4–5 twelve-hour call shifts plus one weekend during an eight-week period.
• Weekday Call: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
• Weekend Call: 24-hour coverage on Saturday and Sunday
• Weekend Rotation: Approximately every 7–8 weeks for weekend call
• Call Response: Must be dressed and ready to work within 30 minutes.
• Holidays: Covered through call; the OR is otherwise closed on holidays and weekends.
• Floating: Not normally required for travelers; may be considered for duties within the RN’s scope.
• Scrubs: Provided by the facility.
• Orientation: General hospital orientation plus 3 departmental shifts with a preceptor.
• Cancellation Policy: Facility may cancel 2 shifts per 13-week contract.

Submission Requirements & Policies

• Only one position submission at a time across the entire WVU system.
• Driver’s license address must be more than 50 miles from the facility.
• Former permanent employees must be separated for 2 years.
• Former travelers who completed one full year at the facility must be separated for 2 years.
• Travel teams must be submitted together in one email.
• Maximum of 2 candidates per opening; submissions may be held if the position is at capacity.
• Blocked scheduling requests are not accepted.
• COVID-19 vaccination is required. Medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted using the facility’s exemption form and are subject to council approval.
