Position Overview

Aspirus Medford Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week contract. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of emergency room experience, strong clinical assessment skills, and the ability to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced, small-hospital emergency department.

This role is suited to a flexible, dependable emergency nurse who can adapt to changing patient acuity, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, triage, and provide nursing care to patients presenting with a variety of emergency medical conditions.
• Monitor patient status and respond promptly to changes in acuity.
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols.
• Assist with emergency interventions and stabilization procedures.
• Develop and implement individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate patient updates effectively.
• Provide care in the main Emergency Department and, when needed, designated clinical examination rooms.
• Follow hospital policies, patient safety standards, and Aspirus PPE guidelines.
• Float to designated Aspirus facilities as required.

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN license or compact multistate RN license required.
• Minimum of 3 years of Emergency Department experience required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Current ACLS certification required.
• Current PALS certification required.
• Current TNCC certification required.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications must meet Aspirus requirements; AHA or ARC certifications are required.
• Epic charting experience preferred but not required.
• Strong emergency assessment, prioritization, communication, and patient management skills.
• Willingness to float to other Aspirus facilities.

Schedule and Weekend Requirements

• 36 guaranteed hours per week.
• Combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts.
• Shift patterns may include four 8-hour shifts per week or two 12-hour shifts and one 8-hour shift.
• Available shift times:
  • 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• Night shifts are rarely required.
• Every other weekend, sometimes every third weekend.
• Every other holiday.
• No formal on-call or call-back requirements, although participation is encouraged.

Emergency Department Details

• 8-bed Emergency Department.
• Patient assignments depend on acuity, with ratios potentially reaching 1:5.
• May provide care in additional clinical examination rooms as needed.
• Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility, sound clinical judgment, and effective teamwork.

Travelers must be willing to float to other Aspirus locations, including:
