Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU) RN – Chesapeake Regional Healthcare

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Contract: 13 weeks, with possible extension
Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 shifts
Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week; overtime is billed after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of CVICU/CTICU experience.
• Previous travel experience preferred.
• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at submission.
• Epic proficiency required.
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; AHA only for BLS and ACLS.
• Strong neuro experience, including post-brain surgery and EVD/ventriculostomy management.

Required Clinical Skills

• Post-cardiac surgery care, including CABG patients directly from the OR.
• IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz/Pulmonary Artery lines, and FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring.
• Arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and IV starts.
• Titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips; continuous IV sedation.
• Ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning.
• CVVHD/CRRT, IV insulin protocols, dysrhythmia management, and stroke care.
• EVD/ICP monitoring, multisystem organ failure, and surgical wound/drain care.

Unit Details

• 8-bed CTICU using a universal-bed model.
• Adult patients, including post-operative CABG, acute coronary syndrome, NSTEMI, STEMI, and CHF.
• Nurses also care for step-down patients who remain in the CTICU until discharge.
• Typical ICU patient ratio: 1:1–2.
• Equipment includes Hemosphere, Quantum, and Accuryn.

Schedule and Other Conditions

• Every other weekend required.
• Holiday coverage required.
• Must work Christmas.
• Floating is required.
• Block scheduling is not accepted.

• RTO must be submitted with the profile and is reviewed case by case.
