Patient Population & Work Environment

  • Adult and pediatric emergency patients, from neonates through geriatric patients

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5, sometimes higher depending on census
  • Patients may include medical-surgical boarders, long-term-care patients, psychiatric patients, and COVID patients
  • Critical-care patients are transferred to the ICU as appropriate

The facility needs nurses who can safely manage changing patient volumes and work with ratios higher than 1:4. Candidates with experience only in lower-ratio settings may not be the best fit.

  • Manage IVs, start IVs, and perform blood draws
  • Administer and monitor drips prepared by pharmacy

Submission Requirements & Important Rules

  1. NY license: Active license or proof of application with the application date must be included in the submission packet. The facility notes that NY licensing can take 6–8 weeks.
  2. Certifications: Confirm BLS, ACLS, PALS/ENPC, TNCC, and NIHSS requirements are met within the facility's timelines.
  3. Epic: Experience within the last 2 years is nonnegotiable.
  4. Employment history: Explain every employment gap longer than 90 days.
  5. Complete work history: Include facility type, bed count, EMR, and other required details for every position.
  6. Orientation: Biweekly orientations begin on Mondays.
  7. Cell phones and earbuds: Strictly prohibited while working.

Pay Rate Categories

Rates depend on the candidate's permanent address, measured by straight-line mileage, not driving distance.

  • Local: 50 miles or less
  • Radius: 51–100 miles
  • Travel: 101 miles or more

Before Submission, Confirm

  • Active NY RN license or documented application
  • Recent Epic experience within the last 2 years
  • Required certifications and TNCC/NIHSS completion timelines
  • Ability to work the 3:00 PM–3:30 AM shift and every other weekend
  • Flexibility with rotating schedules and no block scheduling
  • Comfort working in a busy ED with typical 1:5 ratios or higher
  • Availability for the requested rapid start
  • Reliable transportation, especially during winter months

Recruiter note: The biggest screening requirements are recent Epic experience, New York licensing documentation, and the required certifications. The facility has strict submission requirements and no block scheduling. Confirm the exact guaranteed hours, actual contract length, and start date before presenting the offer.
