Description
Psychiatric / Behavioral Health RN
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Monday–Friday nights, 40 hours/week
- Every other weekend required
- Call: None
- Floating: Required across Des Moines campuses to similar units
- Holiday coverage: Must work 1–2 of the upcoming winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's), unless the unit is closed.
Unit & Patient Details
- Specialty: Inpatient Psychiatry / Behavioral Health
- Home unit: Geriatric
- Geriatric unit: 12 beds
- Adolescent unit: 12 beds
- Adult unit: 24 beds
- Patient ratios: Up to 1:4–6, depending on unit and shift
- Patient population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
- EHR: Epic
- Scrubs: Solid navy blue
- Equipment/skills: Restraint competency
Requirements
- Minimum 15 months of psychiatric/behavioral health experience
- Recent/current inpatient experience highly preferred
- Epic experience required
- Must have experience with adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
- First-time travelers accepted with at least 12 months of psych/behavioral health experience, provided all other requirements are met
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license required at submission
- BLS certification from AHA or American Red Cross required
- De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, or MAB) preferred; may be completed during onboarding
Required Submission Documents
- Resume/work history showing 24 months of current psychiatric/behavioral health experience
- Psych/behavioral health-specific skills checklist
- Active Iowa or compact/multistate license
- Driver's license
- BLS certification
- De-escalation certificate if available; otherwise, confirm onboarding arrangements
