Charge Respiratory Therapist

Location: Jamaica Plain, MA
Setting: Public health and teaching hospital
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM (40 hours/week)
Contract: 13 weeks with strong potential for extension

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Charge Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide clinical leadership and operational support for a busy Respiratory Therapy Department within a public health and teaching hospital environment. This day-shift leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily department operations, coordinating staffing assignments, supporting frontline respiratory staff, and ensuring quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Charge Respiratory Therapist during day shift operations
• Coordinate daily staff assignments and workload distribution
• Manage sick calls and assist with securing staffing coverage as needed
• Provide clinical guidance and support to respiratory therapy staff
• Assist with equipment setup, troubleshooting, and department readiness
• Support departmental workflow and operational efficiency
• Collaborate with nursing, physicians, and hospital leadership to ensure exceptional patient care
• Promote a positive team environment through effective leadership and communication
• Participate in weekend and holiday coverage as operational needs require

Requirements

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist license
• Previous charge, lead, or supervisory respiratory therapy experience preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing departmental needs
• Experience supporting staff in a fast-paced acute care hospital setting preferred
