Charge Respiratory Therapist (Night Shift)

Location: Jamaica Plain, MA
Setting: Public health and teaching hospital
Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 PM-7:30 AM (40 hours/week)
Contract: 13 weeks with strong potential for extension

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Charge Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide overnight clinical leadership and operational support for a busy Respiratory Therapy Department within a public health and teaching hospital environment. This leadership role is responsible for coordinating night-shift operations, supporting respiratory staff, managing staffing needs, and ensuring high-quality patient care throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Charge Respiratory Therapist during overnight operations
• Coordinate staff assignments and workload distribution for each shift
• Manage sick calls and assist with staffing coverage as needed
• Provide clinical guidance, leadership, and support to respiratory therapy staff
• Assist with equipment setup, troubleshooting, and readiness for patient care
• Monitor department workflow and address operational issues during off-hours
• Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and hospital leadership to ensure quality patient care
• Act as a resource for clinical and operational questions throughout the shift
• Support a positive and collaborative work environment
• Participate in weekend and holiday coverage as departmental needs require

Requirements

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist license
• Previous charge, lead, or supervisory respiratory therapy experience preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during overnight hours
• Experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred
• Ability to adapt to changing patient volumes and departmental priorities
