Intermediate Care Unit Registered Nurse

Overview

• 12-week contract
• Bangor, Maine
• 36 hours per week
• 7P-7A, 12-hour nights
• Start needed: 10/20
• Manager interviews

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maine
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of Intermediate Care experience
• Intermediate Care experience within the last year
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• Experience with trached patients on vents, including administering 100% FiO2 via suction support and silencing alarms
• Trach care and trach suctioning
• Stroke patient care with Q2H neuro checks
• Post stable craniotomy patient care (or comfort with this patient type and confidence in neuro checks)
• High-flow O2 administration
• Trauma patient experience
• Chest tube management
• Wound Vacs and VAC dressing changes
• Bipap administration
• Non-titrating vasoactive or antiarrhythmic drips

Patient Population / Clinical Experience

• Cardiac and medical patients
• Post-op General Surgery or Trauma patients
• Patients with trachs and vents
• Patients with COVID, trauma, sepsis, stroke, stable craniotomies, COPD, ETOH withdrawal, IVDA, PNA, respiratory failure requiring Bipap or High Flow O2
• Experience with trached patients on vents, including 100% FiO2 via suction support and alarm management
• Trach care and trach suctioning
• Stroke patients and Q2H neuro checks
• Stable craniotomy care
• Highflow O2
• Trauma patient experience
• Chest tubes
• Wound Vacs / VAC dressing changes
• Bipap
• Non-titrating vasoactive or antiarrhythmic drips
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Temporary pacemakers
• TR bands
• Post femoral sheath care
• Insulin drips
• General drain / ostomy care
• IV starts

Unit Details

• 12 beds
• RN ratio: 1:3-4 on days and nights
• CNA ratio: 1:6
• Charge nurse may take patients if needed
• Resource Nurse 24/7 ICU trained
• RT 24/7
• Hospitalist 24/7
• Trauma surgery monitors own patients
• PT/OT Monday through Friday
• IV/VAT team available for US-guided IVs and PICC/Midline placement; RN starts their own PIVs
• Float scope includes ED, ICU, and CCU if there is an intermediate assignment in one of those departments

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation every other
• Time off may be approved up to 7 days
• Holiday requests require manager approval
• Holiday expectations vary based on unit needs

Additional Notes

• General hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit
• Any professional scrub color is allowed
• Free parking in designated areas
