Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, weekdays 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • On-Call: Every 5th weekend on call rotation
  • Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
  • Staffing Ratio: 1:1
  • Start Date: Orientation every other week on Thursdays (2 days classroom + unit orientation)
  • Float: May be floated to General Lab CDL
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue/White
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Free for travelers

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Interventional Radiology
  • Minimum RN Experience: 2 years
  • Interventional Radiology Experience: Required (first-time travelers allowed only if they have IR experience)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Licensure: Must have an active West Virginia RN license to start (pending license can be submitted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (AHA only, no pending certs allowed)
    • ACLS (AHA only, no pending certs allowed)
  • Additional Certifications: ACT and AVOX certification required for Cath Lab RN

Clinical & Procedural Details

  • Special Procedures: Angiogram, Fistulogram, Permacath, EVAR, TCAR, TAVR, MitraClip, Mechanical Thrombectomy, Embolization
  • Common Patient Diagnoses: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), Stenosis, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), Stroke, Aneurysm

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation is two days: Thursday and Friday
  • Includes Cerner Infusion Management training
  • Must complete required in-service training modules (approx. 4 hours) prior to start
  • Pass/fail testing required for EKG, Medication Calculation, and Blood Administration exams
  • Candidates must review facility-specific policies including Blood Administration, Dress Code, Math Calculation Packet, and EKG Review prior to start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required
  • Physical Exam: Must be completed within 1 year of start, stating candidate is in good health and able to perform job duties
  • Fit Mask Testing: Annual fit testing required (3M N95 1860 Small or Regular and Aura 9205 only)
  • TB Testing: Negative TB test within 3 months of start or negative chest X-ray if positive TB history
  • Immunizations:
    • Tdap (required, declinations not accepted without approved exemption)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers required)
    • Hepatitis B (documentation of vaccination or titer required)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titers required)
  • Drug Screen: Must be within 30 days of start, including a full panel (Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Propoxyphene)
  • Background Checks: 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, sex offender search, national and international searches if applicable
  • Additional Checks: EPLS/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually

Documentation & Submission Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Social Security Card required (legible)
  • RN License verification via NURSYS within 2 days of submission
  • Minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references within past 2 years (1 reference required from manager/supervisor/charge nurse within 1 year of start)
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist (annual)
  • Candidate profile/work history
  • Pass/fail testing acknowledgment
  • Facility-specific forms including vaccination exemption requests if applicable
  • Physical exam and immunization records
  • Drug screen and background checks

Additional Notes

  • No accommodation for blocked schedules
  • 100-mile radius rule applies for candidate location; 75-99 miles requires facility approval
  • Candidates cannot return as travelers within 2 years if previously permanent employees at this facility
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required for certain units (ER, Surgical & Trauma ICU, Trauma Stepdown, Behavioral Health)
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Candidates must complete all required modules and submit proof of completion before starting assignment

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital with a focus on interventional radiology nursing in a supportive travel contract environment.
