Job Overview

Unit & Facility
- Emergency Department (ED) in a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital
- 68-bed unit including super track, psych, and trauma
- Level 3 trauma center
- Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Regional Cardiac Center (Cath, EP, IR)
- Pediatrics included
- All private rooms
- High acuity unit with patient ratios striving for 1:4 or 1:5 (may vary based on staffing, census, acuity)
- Support staff includes PCTs, First-look RN, Triage RN, Charge RN, Secretary, RT, Lab (occasionally), and critical response RN
Required Qualifications
- New York RN license
- Minimum 3 years of experience in specialty (Emergency Department)
- Prior travel experience required
- Pediatric experience preferred
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- TNCC or ATCN (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ER staff
- NIH Stroke Certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Schedule
- Every other weekend required
- No block schedule guaranteed
Orientation
- Half-day clinical orientation
- Half-day shadowing on unit with nurse
Clinical Skills & Procedures
- Experience with drips including TNK, Cleviprex, and Level 1 infusion for Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Emergency contact form
- Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York specific)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (80% passing score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Color blind testing (required prior to start)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit; expires every 3 years)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (specific requirements for positive history)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or documented history)
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
- References: 2 professional references for travel/allied/per diem acute care (within 3 years)

- Facility requires completion of online learning modules prior to first shift
