Job Opportunity: RNFA - Cardiovascular Surgery Department
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)
- Department: Cardiovascular Surgery (Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular surgeries)
- Surgeons: 2 Cardiothoracic surgeons, 3 Vascular surgeons
- Responsibilities:
- Assist in the OR for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries
- Experienced in endoscopic vein harvesting and radial artery harvesting
- Participate in OR call schedule
Work Schedule
- Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (07:00 - 17:30)
- Weekend Rotation: 1 in 4 weekends
- Call Requirements: 1 in 4 weekdays (Monday-Thursday nights) and 1 weekend per month
- Floating: Not applicable
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)
- Required Certification: CRNFA
- Acute Hospital OR experience required
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year preferred (facility accepts first-time travelers)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
Required Certifications
- CRNFA (Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Current, American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - As applicable
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit and job specifics
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card
- E-Verify
- Background Checks (within 30 days of assignment start):
- 7-year address history
- Social Security Number Trace
- National Criminal History Search (7 years)
- National Sex Offender Database Search
- FACIS Level 3 Search
- Education Verification
- State License: Current Michigan RN license (verified within 30 days of start)
- Physical Exam: Within 12 months of start, must note latex sensitivity
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and Health Requirements:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination or declination
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (during flu season)
- Fit Mask OSHA Respirator Form completed at least 1 week prior to start
- Facility-specific modules and acknowledgements completed as required
Additional Requirements
- References: 2 from previous employers
- Resume: Current with at least 7 years of work history
- Skills Checklist and Competency Exams as applicable
This position is suitable for RNs with acute OR experience who are comfortable assisting in complex cardiovascular surgeries and meeting call requirements. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
