Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Smithtown, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for an ICU PM contract position.

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty or in a comparable or higher acuity area.
• No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned.

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all RN positions (AHA only)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for all ER RN positions (AHA only)
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (refer to specific unit requirements):

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ER
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Required for L&D, NICU, Mother/Baby
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Required for L&D, Mother/Baby
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)

Competency Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Minimum score 80%
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Minimum score 80% (may be required depending on unit)
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) upon arrival for certain specialty areas

Background and Documentation Requirements

• 7-year background check including multiple federal and state databases, completed within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Education verification: diploma or transcript acceptable
• State license verification required within 30 days of start (no license hits accepted)
• 2 clinical references required (supervisor level or above)
• Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps
• Skills checklist current within the last year and applicable to position
• New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check updated annually

Health and Safety Requirements

• Facility-specific physical exam form completed by a physician within 30 days of start
• Fit test for N95 mask (Halyard Fluidshield or 3M 1860) within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
• Standard 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination required October 1 – April 30 (declinations allowed for religious or medical reasons)
• COVID vaccination series preferred

Additional Notes

• Driver’s license or state ID with clear picture and address required
• Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for various units
• Physical exam and drug testing must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance
