Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts (06:45 AM - 5:15 PM)
- Rooms: 23 operating rooms
- Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in specialty
- First-timers: Not accepted (must have prior OR experience)
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend shift per month
- On-call Requirement: Yes, approximately 1 per week (less frequent recently)
- Floating: Rarely, only within skill set
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility
- Licensure: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process
Certifications & Licenses
- Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Preferred: CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room)
- Additional Certifications: ACLS, PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
- Must have primary source verification of state license and certifications
Clinical Requirements & Skills
- General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
- Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
- Must be able to work with all service lines except Cardiovascular (CV)
- Surgical Case Experience Required:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
- Emergency Management Skills: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
- Equipment Experience: Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
- Professional Knowledge: Administration of blood products, Infection control, Radiation safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure, Urinary bladder catheterization

Time Off & Scheduling
- All requested time off must be approved by manager
- Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
- On-call shifts count as called-off shifts if used in lieu of cancellation
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days prior to start
- Illinois-specific searches including Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and State Police registries required within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting through Illinois Health Care Worker Registry required for clinical candidates without active IL license; must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start
- Education verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
- Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
- Photo for badge required before start
- Code of Conduct acknowledgment required
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
