Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) travel contract position. The role requires ICU experience with a preference for CVICU background. Nurses will provide critical care using specialized equipment and may float to other ICU areas, ED, PACU, or step-down units as needed.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience (CVICU experience highly preferred)
• Epic electronic health record experience required

Work Schedule & Environment

• 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, occasionally flexing to 1:3
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
• No call required
• Floating required to all ICUs, ED, PACU, and occasionally to MS/PCU units (1:4 ratio in MS/PCU)
• Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite if not already certified
• NIH certification
• Must know N95 mask size (COVID-19 isolation patients may be present)

Required Licenses

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 positive cases
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Immunizations and health documents including:

  • Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccines or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination
• Physical exam documentation (within 12 months)
• Annual competency exams including medication, pharmacology, and EKG/dysrhythmia testing

Summary

This CVICU travel nurse position requires a minimum of 2 years ICU experience, strong critical care skills, and flexibility to float across multiple units. Candidates must hold current RN licensure and required certifications, be proficient with Epic, and be prepared to work weekends and care for isolation patients. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
