Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in Medical-Renal patients. Ventilator experience is required.

Schedule & Work Details

• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
• Call-off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Charting: Epic experience required

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Required Clinical Skills

• Cardiac: Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia management, cardiac drip management (without titration)
• IV/Line: IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
• Respiratory: Ventilator experience required; respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Rapid Response/Isolation: Use of rapid response and code teams, maintaining isolation precautions
• Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Patient population: Adults and geriatric patients
• Unit includes care for chronic ventilator patients and hospitalist medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses
• Functions as an alternative unit for gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU/Medical-Renal)
• Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated, but must have ventilator experience and PCU/stepdown experience
• Prior travel experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)

Licensure

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required
• Pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state

Additional Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Required immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification and transcript/diploma required
• 2 clinical references required
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance documents
